Counterweight Manual Fly System – Manufacturing and Installation

PROJECT: Manufacturing and Installation of a Double-Purchase Counterweight Manual Fly System

A counterweight manual fly system is one of the most widely used solutions in traditional stage machinery due to its reliability, operational safety, and precise manual control. In this project, TAGA Proyectos Escénicos carried out the manufacturing, assembly, and installation of a complete double-purchase counterweight manual fly system with 32 line sets and a Safe Working Load (SWL) of 500 kg.

The system was installed at Teatro El Paseo, Colegio San Miguel Arcángel, in Madrid, Spain.

TAGA, specialized in theatre engineering and stage lifting systems, delivers comprehensive technical solutions ranging from detailed engineering design to in-house fabrication and final commissioning. In this case, the counterweight manual fly system was specifically engineered to ensure balanced operation, structural safety, and full adaptation to the technical requirements of the theatre space.

Technical Features

The installed counterweight manual fly system enables controlled handling of various stage elements. Thanks to its counterweighted batten mechanism, operators can raise and lower loads efficiently while minimizing physical effort and improving operational precision.

The system allows safe movement of:

  • Stage scenery

  • Curtains and draperies

  • Technical equipment

  • Suspended stage elements

Furthermore, the counterweight system ensures optimal load balancing, enhancing operational safety and maintaining stability throughout vertical travel.

Safety and Regulatory Compliance

This counterweight manual fly system is fully certified and includes the corresponding CE Declaration of Conformity. Therefore, compliance with applicable European safety standards for stage machinery and lifting systems is guaranteed.

All components were manufactured and installed according to current structural and safety regulations in force within the European Union. As a result, the system meets both mechanical integrity and operational safety requirements for professional theatre environments.

Engineering Expertise in Stage Machinery

Through this project in Madrid, Spain, TAGA Proyectos Escénicos reinforces its expertise in detailed engineering, custom manufacturing, and on-site installation of stage machinery systems.

By combining structural engineering knowledge with practical stage requirements, the company delivers reliable, compliant, and technically robust solutions tailored to each theatre or cultural venue.
